Moving files from your host machine straight into the DaDesktop environment

One feature that consistently comes up in requests is the option to transfer files directly from a trainer's own laptop or desktop into the DaDesktop workspace. These could be slide decks, ISO images for use in a nested virtualisation setup that lets you spin up multiple servers and desktops, or simply everyday files needed for a particular training exercise.

Our team has rolled out a simple, drag-and-drop file transfer tool in the latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates. Now, you can effortlessly drag files from your personal machine—whether that's a laptop or desktop—straight into the DaDesktop session.

Right now, you can move just one file at a time. If you need to send over a batch, simply pack them into a zip archive and drag that across as a single item. The transfer uses chunked uploading to handle even large files smoothly, and you'll see the best results with a fast fibre internet connection. The folder structure inside the archive, if any, stays intact.

For Linux templates, there's currently no desktop shortcut pointing to the uploads folder the way Windows does. Instead, you'll find your transferred files right here:-

/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
