Setting Up Standalone Desktop Environments

To set up a standalone desktop, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the 'Standalones' option in the top menu
2. Click 'Create New Standalone Desktop'
3. A dialogue box will appear as shown below

Each field is described in detail below:

• GPU Model
  Select a GPU model and type if needed. Checking the 'Display GPU enabled servers' option filters the list to show only servers that have GPUs
• Datacentre / Server
  Select the datacentre region and server nearest to your location here in Hungary
• OS to clone from
  Various operating system options are provided.
  
  
  
  If a template is marked 'Copy Required', it must be copied to the chosen server before use. Please note, typically only Windows operating systems may involve additional charges.
• Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
  DaDesktop frequently refreshes its OS templates. However, should you encounter issues with the latest version, you might find that an older release works better.
   
• Memory
  The memory limit for each desktop. Keep in mind that you are constrained by the server's resources. Different servers have varying memory caps. To request a higher limit, reach out via our Support Chat.
• Label
  Optionally, provide an alias if you prefer a more straightforward name for your standalone.
   

Choosing the OS Template to Clone

When selecting an operating system template to clone, you have several choices. Options include Windows and multiple Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, and Almalinux.

You can use a pre-built template, typically identified by a version number like V51. Alternatively, we also offer the option to construct completely up-to-date Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates leverage a distinct build process that uses Linux sources together with a script to apply the essential DaDesktop customisations. As a result, these templates are always current, fully secure, and simpler to deploy and maintain.

Constructing the OS Template

After you choose the desired template, the pop-up shown below will appear.

Press 'Start Building'

The standalone will then be built. Be aware that this process might exceed 30 seconds; if it seems stuck, simply allow a bit more time.

 

 

Template Successfully Built

Once the template is built, you may adjust any settings as needed, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.

Your standalone is now being created; this usually takes just a few moments, far less time than building the template.

Your new standalone is ready. In the example below, it is named 'julian-6iqm'; however, you could have assigned a more descriptive label if desired.

Press 'Connect' to launch and access the standalone machine.
